Surfing the Mersey River Mouth

After a lonely night at the Devonport YHA, Bec and I got off to an early start because I wanted to get a shot of the candy striped lighthouse at Mersey Bluff in the morning light. On the way out there past the river, we found some hooded surfers braving the morning cold to surf the waves coming into the river mouth from Bass Strait. With the gentle offshore winds, these waves were breaking magically down the line giving plenty of opportunities for me to try the 200mm lens I had recently purchased.

I also shot some of the surfers on Fuji Provia 100F slide film as the rising sun shone through and lit the wave wall with a brilliant green glow.

The next day, some guys surfed 30 foot waves not far from Devonport. Check the story out here.

Nice shots you’ve got of home, been overseas for 16years and miss Tas like crazy. Should have tried Bicheno as the water colour is alittle better ;-)
