It’s been a long time coming but I’ve finally got around to composing a Melbourne cityscape that I’m satisifed with. It has all the key icons (Federation Square, Yarra River, Princes Bridge, Flinders Street Station & St Pauls Cathedral) all backed by the sunset reflecting from the mirrored finish of the skyscrapers. I ventured into the city for the Melbourne Open House but it was so busy I gave up. The queues for some of the key attractions like the Manchester Unity Building and the Russell Place Substation were multiples of hours long.
Be sure to check out the larger version of this photograph and if you like it, why not consider a print? I’ve updated my redbubble portfolio after some encouraging sales and I think this shot is well worthy of inclusion.

I like the colour and movement of the clouds and the hint of their reflection in the skyscraper’s windows.
cheers, the reflections are an important part because i haven’t found many other viewpoints along the river that sync with sunset in this way.
it’s an excellent shot Cain !
thanks Jared – next time i might try a telephoto shot from here to get up close to those reflections
Hello Cain,
I am working with the Australian College of Midwives and we have a conference to be held in Melbourne in 2012. Have been looking for the perfect Melbourne image. This is the best I have seen. Would you consider allowing the midwives to use it for their conference? Regards, Therese Kramer
I only allow for non-commercial usage of my work (if I’m not being paid) and no derivatives without my approval. Thanks for the inquiry.
beautiful photo… lovely that you got the pink and blue sky. was it taken early evening? ;) hello…

ahaha, i thought so. early evening sky’s usually pink and blue or pink and gray. that about covers my knowledge of skies, lol…
